This track is probably the most southern piste in continental Europe, it starts in Algeciras and goes all along the coast to Tarifa without touching any tarmac. I had it pending for a long time, and what a better way of strike this off of my list than with a new bike? 🙂
To find the piste we need to cross Algeciras, and in Getares get a former military road which passes though the place know as “Las Pantallas” (The Screens), it gets the name after a strange military structure. But this will be explained with detail in a different post ;).
The proximity to the sea offers stunning views of the Strait of Gibraltar and the African coast.
The dirt road soon becomes full of rocks, where the AJP’s suspensions show how good they are, at the same level of any enduro bike.
And I suddenly arrive to a small beach in the mouth of the Guadalmesí river, at the foot of the tower with the same name.
The tower marks half of the way to Tarifa. I continue at a relaxed pace on a military dirt road, expressly marked as forbidden, but where I can’t stop seeing cars.
Even without especially complicated zones, I can practice some of the tricks learned in Guadalajara.
When I want to realise I can already see Tarifa in the distance, this is the most southern point of Europe.
And mission accomplished, I am in Tarifa without any incident. Or that is what I though, until I checked the bike and discovered that at some point in the way here I lost one of the side panels. Two days ago I was cleaning the bike and installing the blinkers, I probably left some bolts loose and they fell out with the vibrations. I decide to come back doing the same track in the opposite direction but there is no luck finding the panel.
But despite the incident I had a lot of fun, as you can see in the pictures ;).
